Here’s what you’re actually buying.
Second in the You Aren’t Hesitating series, where I answer the questions people actually ask us before they book.
Let me be direct: legal journeys aren’t cheap. But when you think about all you get, they are actually quite a bargain.
An individual session typically runs $2,000–3,000. A group session typically runs $1,000–1,500 per person. Prices are set by independent facilitators and centers [and factor in the high costs of maintaing this program], and the real range runs wider in both directions. Premium retreats cost considerably more, and some facilitators offer reduced rates for people who need financial assistance.
What that number actually covers
What surprises people is what that number actually covers. It isn’t a dose of mushrooms. A complete experience is:
- at least 1 preparation session,
- the dosing day itself: six to eight hours with a facilitator present the entire time,
- the medicine, and
- integration session[s] afterward.
A better way to look at it
I actually think there’s a better way to break this down to help you understand what you are buying:
- 2+ hours with a highly-skilled facilitator who can ensure you are ready for your experience
- State-licensed mushrooms of the highest quality that are lab and facilitator tested
- An altered-state spa day. You will be journeying in a cozy room at a thoughtfully-designed center
- 8 hours with your facilitator who is creating an optimal set and setting for your experience
- 2+ more hours with your facilitator to break down your experience and figure out how to move forward with this new information
- Optionally, community if you are in a group. A group of people you are now bonded with who can relate to the experience you’ve had
The price tag can still feel high, but you are getting a lot from it.
Both states require integration by law. Most facilitators do more than the minimum. Many offerings include additional bells and whistles geared toward why you are coming in. You can see those offerings here.
What it compares to
That framing matters when you compare it to what you’ve probably already spent. One person put it to me plainly: measured against years of talk therapy, or a course of ketamine treatments, it comes out more cost-effective. It just arrives as one big number instead of spread out where you don’t notice it.
If cost is what’s kept you out
And if cost is the thing that’s kept you out entirely, tell us. We built a low-cost group offering specifically for people who’ve been priced out of this, and it includes the same package as above, with our quality promise.
Group isn’t the discount version
One more thing worth saying about group sessions, because people assume group is the discount version. Groups typically gather four to eight participants. Yes, it’s less private. But being witnessed by other people who are doing the same difficult work, and witnessing them, is something an individual session structurally cannot offer. Some facilitators see the best outcomes with groups. A lot of people arrive at group because of the price and leave saying it was the part that mattered.
